42CrMo4+QT Introduction

42CrMo4 material is an alloy steel, the delivery status of 42CrMo4 is mostly tempered (+ QT is short for quenched and tempered), it has high strength, high toughness, good hardenability, temper brittleness, high fatigue limit, good impact resistance after quenching and tempering, and good low temperature impact toughness. 42CrMo4 steel number is 1.7225, it’s suitable for the manufacture of large and medium-sized plastic molds requiring a certain degree of strength and toughness, transmission gears, rear axles, load-carrying connecting rods, spring clips and oil deep well drill pipe joints.

42CrMo4+QT means 42CrMo4 is in the quenched and tempered condition (+QT).

42CrMo4 steel properties at room temperature in the quenched and tempered condition.

  • Yield strength: ≥900 N/mm2 (d≤16mm, t≤8mm)
    • ≥750 N/mm2 (16 < d ≤ 40mm, 8 < t ≤ 20mm)
    • ≥900 N/mm2 (40 < d ≤ 100mm, 20 < t ≤ 60mm)
    • ≥900 N/mm2 (100 < d ≤ 160mm, 60 < t ≤ 100mm)
    • ≥900 N/mm2 (160 < d ≤ 250mm, 100 < t ≤ 160mm)
  • Tensile strength: 1100-1300 N/mm2 (d≤16mm, t≤8mm)

42CrMo4 Heat Treatment

  • Quenching temperature: 820 to 880 ℃ (Austenitizing period: at least 30 min; Quenching agent: Oil or water)
  • Tempering temperature: 540 to 680 ℃ (at least 60 min)
  • End quench test: 850 ± 5 ℃
